Hi, my name is Greg Barnier and I have NF2.
I was diagnosed at the early age of 10 yrs. Since that time 35 years ago, I’ve had 8 cranial surgeries to remove brain tumors, 4 spinal surgeries to remove tumors from within the spinal canal and brachial plexus, plus one radio surgery performed using the LINAC. I’ve learned from my experiences that to have a strong support group of family, friends, and excellent doctors is the best way to manage NF2.
I’ve done quite a bit in life having NF2 on my back. I rode unicycles with a group of other riders, played baseball, soccer, was on the varsity swim team in high school, plus was chosen to attend the national music camp at Interlochen. Also found my way into 3 major universities before graduating with my Bachelor’s in Computer Information Systems. I also did a lot of road cycling, but total deafness and balance problems took music and cycling. An optic nerve tumor took my vision in one eye. When I couldn’t cycle anymore, I did other exercises and I started running to help find a cure for NF.
The best thing to do with NF2 is to stay physically and mentally active. Also, keep planning new goals and follow them with as much motivation and passion you find.
